Spring/Summer/Fall

The following is our standard overnight list. For longer trips make logical adjustments (more clothing, different backpack/bag, more food/snacks, etc.)

Shelter (Pack sleeping bag and clothing in waterproof/heavy-duty garbage bags inside your pack to keep them dry!)

  • Water-resistant Backpack/Bag
  • Tent** (as planned by patrols)
  • Sleeping Pad** (closed-cell foam)
  • Sleeping Bag** (appropriate for overnight temperature forecast)
  • Sleeping Bag Liner or blanket (if necessary for temperature)
  • Waterproof stuff-sack (or garbage/compactor bag) for sleeping bag
  • Class A Uniform and/or Class B Uniform*
  • 2x Underwear (wear one / pack one)
  • 2x Long-sleeved shirt (can be Class A or B, wear one / pack one)
  • Long pants & Belt
  • Shorts and/or swimming suit*
  • Middle layer(s) (Sweatshirt, Sweater, Hoodie, light jacket)
  • 2x Socks (wear one / pack one)
  • Sturdy shoes or boots (broken-in)
  • Jacket (with a hood or bring a hat)
  • Sun-protective Hat
  • Rain gear/poncho (if above items are not waterproof)

Water & Food

  • Water Bottle (1 Liter) x2 when the trip includes hiking
  • Mess Kit (plate/bowl/cup/fork/spoon/knife)
  • Patrol-Assigned Food Items** for dinner, breakfast, lunch
  • Necessary cookware and utensils to make your portion of meals
  • High-Calorie Snacks
  • Money for meal/snack on the way home***

Basics

  • Headlamp or flashlight or lantern (with spare or fresh batteries)
  • Personal First Aid Kit
  • Pocketknife or Multitool (with a blade less than 5 inches long)
  • Matches in a waterproof container
  • Toiletries: Medications, Toothbrush/toothpaste, Deodorant, Lip Balm (Chapstick/Carmex)
  • Bandanas
  • Garbage Bags
  • Ziploc Bags
  • Compass*
  • Sunglasses & Case
  • Pen/Pencil & Notebook
  • 50′ of cordage (paracord, etc.)

LEAVE AT HOME

  • Knives with blades longer than 5 inches
  • Other Weapons (real or simulated)
  • Laser Pointers
  • Radios
  • Video Games
  • Headphones

*troop quartermaster has some to borrow
**if you don’t have an assignment, contact your patrol leader or bring your own food for each meal
