Completing the knots requirements at home

Scout camp is a perfect place to do all your knot requirements but what if you can’t do the requirements needed for knots all at camp. Another place to do the requirements is in the comfort of your home, but it’s not easy. Here are some tips to make the process easier.

  1. Know which knot and requirement you want to do
  2. Refer to your scout handbook and read about the knot your working on
  3. Watch a YouTube video on the knot. Search for the name of the knot not the scout book requirement since the numbers don’t always match
  4. Get the proper materials. For lashings you can ask your neighbors if you can borrow a broomstick to tie them together
  5. Practice the knot. Remember don’t give up, they’re all possible and it just takes time. If you’re having trouble take a break because having rested eyes makes the process easier.
  6. When you think you’re ready to record yourself tying the knot. Setup a tripod or have a family member take video of you tying the knot. If you mess up don’t stop recording right away because you might be able to correct the knot.
  7. Save each file with the knot name and requirement number and letter.
  8. Upload the video to scout book under the right requirement

These are basic tips to get through the know requirements at home. You will eventually finish the requirements. Just be patient and stay positive.
